Jordan Farmar stars as Maccabi Tel Aviv hunt down Real Madrid 88-82 – Euroleague Recap Part 3
Real Madrid Head Coach Pablo Laso accepted after the game, that his time was outdone by a better side on the night.
"Maccabi played a very solid game for 40 minutes. When you play on the road in the Euroleague you need to upgrade your defense. We gave up 88 points and with that it's very difficult to win. Farmar attacked the rim and did a lot
of damage. Blu spaced the floor with his points from the arc. For us it's a disappointing loss because we came here to win, but we couldn't make it. Llull had foul trouble early in the game and that gave us some trouble. We talked about Farmar before the game,
but we couldn't stop his scoring."
Sofoklis Schortsanitis ended the night with 16 points. He didn’t do much in the paint, but was responsible for selling eight fouls on the opposition. David Blu also had 16 on a 5 of 7 shooting while Devin Smith finished the proceedings
with 15 points and team high 6 rebounds.
Maccabi were 60.8 percent accurate from the two point range as compared to only 42.1 % by Madrid. Real did however had the better of Tel Aviv from the free throw line. They shot 20 of 22 from the stripe, while Maccabi only managed
14 of 24.
The Spanish side had only three players in the double scoring figures, with Jaycee Carroll leading the way at 18. He was 1 of 4 on the pointer, but drilled 4 of his 5 attempts from downtown and all four try’s from the line. Reyes
Felipe scored 15 points and 4 rebounds while Fernandez had an off night with only 13 points on a 3 of 9 shooting from the three point range.
Serge Ibaka, the Oklahoma city Thunder star, came off the bench with 9 points and 8 rebounds, while Mirza Begic grabbed a game high 9 rebounds in nearly 11 minutes of action.
He was gracious in accepting that his opposite numbers had the better of the game. However, he did rue some missed opportunities down the stretch;
"I know Sofo from the past and know that he's a player who is very difficult to play against. We had a chance in the end but missed some shots. Jordan Farmar had a great game for Maccabi. We have to play better one-on-one defense
if we want to win in places like Tel Aviv."
