Jordan Martinook of Vancouver Giants snubs the team by joining Phoenix Coyotes in the NHL
The 20-year-old Canadian forward, Jordan Martinook, who played for Vancouver Giants in the Western Hockey League (WHL), has joined Phoenix Coyotes by signing a contract with them in the National Hockey League (NHL).
The Leduc, Alberta born player was drafted in the second round of the 2012 NHL Draft by Phoenix Coyotes, selected at the 58th overall. He was still eligible to play in the other leagues than NHL but he chose to join the biggest league.
According to the team policy, the financial terms of the deal were not announced and disclosed by the player, his agents or the team.
Martinook was very happy to get the deal done and join the Coyotes side, but he does not know if others are happy as well like him, as he said,
“It worked out good, for my side at least. I’m not sure how they feel about it. I’m happy.”
The 6-foot-0, 201 pounder also told that Coyotes organisation wants him to play for them or their AHL affiliates Portland Pirates and he would also miss Vancouver, as he added,
“They told me I’m not coming back here. I’m going to miss Vancouver, but they said they want me in Portland [AHL] or Phoenix, depending on what happens.”
Martinook also thanked the General Manager of the Vancouver Giants, appreciating the fact that he had done a lot for the player and today he is a good player just because of the General Manager. According to him, he would never have reached where he is today,
had Bonner not believed in him and polished him as a player. He also said that he owes Vancouver, as he added,http://blogs.theprovince.com/2012/08/31/giants-star-jordan-martinook-signs-with-phoenix-says-hes-told-hes-not-coming-back-to-vancouver/#print“I thanked him [Scott Bonner] for everything he’s done for me. If he hadn’t taken a chance for me when I was an 18-year-old guy, none of this would have happened. Two years ago, I was going to college. This may have been four years away, if at all. I owe
a lot to Vancouver”.
Martinook played last two years for Vancouver Giants and scored 51 goals, 41 assists, 92 total points in the 144 games that he played for them.
