Jordan Spieth enjoys his experience at the Valero Texas Open – Golf News
Jordan Spieth, the only amateur who appeared in the Valero Texas Open, finished off his run with a three-over par in the final round at Oaks Course, at San Antonio, to tie for the 41st position on the leaderboard.
Spieth improved his position on the leaderboard in the third round, on Saturday, after he carded an eagle and three birdies.
Later, he had to suffer three bogeys and a double bogey, which put him back at the lower end of the leaderboard while entering the final round on Sunday, April 22, 2012.
“Yeah, yesterday it got really fun, and I knew what it was like to be in the top five in a PGA event,” said the former Denton prep star. “It's a feeling I would like to have again”.
“I was hitting punch shots right at the hole and ended up going over the green,” he talked about his final four holes on Saturday.
“I look back and I don't feel like I ended up finishing the way I did but, you know, there's -- it's disappointing because I really didn't hit the ball that bad. Just those holes got the best of me”.
The final round again witnessed him make the same mistakes and he went over the greens a number of times, which caused four bogeys to come his way.
He still believes that he played well throughout the tournament. According to him, it was a great experience for him to play his fifth PGA Tour event, and he learned substantially from it.
He will now head back to participate in the top-ranked Longhorns in marquee event that also includes the Big 12 and NCАА tournaments.
Meanwhile, Ben Curtis retained the top spot on the leaderboard to earn his first PGA Tour victory in the last six years.
Curtis carded an equal par score on Sunday, which was enough to secure a two-stroke victory over Matt Every and John Huh.
Matt Kuchar (15), the top-ranked player in the field of San Antonio, tied for the 13th place after carding a one-over par 73 in the final round.
