Jordan Spieth fails to earn the PGA Tour card
It has been a disappointing season for the sophomore golfer Jordan Spieth. Jordan failed to make it in the money tour list and had to go through the Q-School in order to earn his tour card.
Spieth made it to the second round of the Qualifying School but he needed to finish inside the top 20 to earn his tour card. However, he could only manage a 26th place finish.
Jordan finished with eight-under for the second round but fell three strokes shy of the intended target.
This now means that he will not be seen as a full time player on the PGA Tour. The only way he can be on the PGA Tour events is via a sponsor’s exemption.
Although he failed to earn the card but he still has many options ahead of him to choose from.
He has the option of going back to Texas to finish his season and aim to turn pro after NCAA championships. Nevertheless, there are options through which he can pursue golf professionally.
One such option is to play on the Web.com tour after competing in the Monday qualifiers. Meanwhile, he can also play overseas. Spieth has made a decision but he has not yet announced it publically.
“I’ve looked at all options everywhere,” Spieth told Golf Week. “I know what I’m going to do, I’m just not saying anything right now”.
The Longhorns would love to have Jordan back in their team as he has matured as a player while playing alongside the top ranked golfers on the PGA tour.
Currently he is the fifth ranked collegiate player. More than that, he has been their most consistent and successful player for a long time.
He was also very instrumental in taking his team to the third in the 2011 NCAA championships.
If Jordan turns pro in the start of the next season, then chances are that he will get sponsors’ exemption for most of the tournaments. As a result of that, he would be able to play on the PGA Tour.
For now he is just trying to rest and get some time off from golf.
“I’m just going to go home now and get some food and get some rest, enjoy Thanksgiving and we’ll see what happens,” Spieth said.
