Jordan Spieth goes professional
Jordan Spieth, an American golfer who recently turned professional, made his lifelong dream come true.
Spieth, is the only player after Tiger Woods to have won the U.S Junior Amateur more than once. Last year, the American golfer turned 18, and consequently lost his first position on the Polo Golf Rankings.
The 19-year-old lives in Texas and helped win his State the NCAA championship earlier this year. Spieth once won the U.S. Junior Amateur title back in 2009 and the other in 2011.
While commenting on his decision to turn professional, Spieth said that it was not an easy decision to make. He added that although he enjoyed playing at the amateur level, he is looking forward to competing against the best golfers in the world.
He continued that he has set numerous goals for himself and is looking forward to accomplishing the targets.
While speaking about his successful golf career, Spieth said, "I owe everything I've achieved thus far to the support of my family, friends, teammates, and The University of Texas.
"While I'm proud of what my teammates and I have accomplished, I couldn't be more excited to fulfill my lifelong dream of becoming a professional golfer".
When Spieth was a 16-year-old teenager, he made the headlines due to an exceptional performance in the Byron Nelson Championship.
The American was in contention halfway through the final round in the tournament. Spieth has played in eight professional tournaments and has made the cut in six of them.
His other achievements are that he was the finalist of the 2012 Ben Hogan Award and was considered to be one of the top amateurs of the country.
John Fields, the Longhorns men’s golf coach, said that Spieth is one of the most remarkable young men he has seen.
Fields further commented on Spieth’s decision to become professional, saying: "Though he is leaving early, he has left a positive, indelible mark on The University of Texas and our program. Jordan is first class, first class as a student, first class as
a teammate. We will certainly miss him, but our future remains bright and like him, this is a new beginning for all of us”.
