Jordan Staal very happy on joining Carolina Hurricanes and reuniting with brother Eric Staal –NHL Update
Canadian professional ice-hockey player and former Pittsburgh Penguins staar centre, Jordan Staal, is ecstatic to have been reunited with his brother, by joining Carolina Hurricanes.
Jordan’s brother Eric Staal is Hurricanes’ player for last nine years whereas Jordan was traded to Hurricanes by Pittsburgh last month.
He was traded by Penguins in exchange of 23-year-old, American-Canadian centre, Brandon Sutter, 20-year-old, American defenseman Brian Dumoulin and the player that Carolina Hurricanes would select 8th in the 2012 NHL draft.
On 1st July 2012, Jordan had signed a 10-year deal with Carolina Hurricanes for $60 million, for which he would be given $6 million every year. This means that Hurricanes would pay him 50% more than what Pittsburgh Penguins were paying him as
last contract that Staal signed with Penguins was $16 million for four years, which meant $4 million every year.
23-year-old Jordan Staal is already being appointed alternative captain of the Hurricanes side, whereas his brother Eric Staal is captain of the side, which he had become at the start of 2010 year, after replacing Rod Brind’Amour. The 27-year-old centre
was also named captain of the 2011 NHL All-Star game.
According to Raleigh and Observe, on Friday, while addressing a press conference, Jordan told that family union thing was always on their mind and it is great to play against two brothers but even better to play with your own brother. He said that he is
ecstatic while talking to the media,
“We knew the family thing was a very intriguing part of this whole thing. To play against two brothers in the NHL is pretty awesome, but to play alongside your brother, both in the primes of our careers, is very, very exciting. As a family, for me and Eric
especially, we're ecstatic to have this come together as it did."
At 6-feet -4 inches, the 220 pounder Jordan Staal also said that he is looking to expand his role and there is pressure as well and he is hopeful that he can be a elite player while saying,
"I'm obviously looking for the opportunity to expand my role and be more of an elite player. I know the opportunity is here and obviously there is pressure”.
