Jordan Zimmermann leads Washington Nationals to a 3-1 victory against Los Angeles Dodgers-MLB
Starter Jordan Zimmermann shines as the Washington Nationals beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-1 at Nationals Park, Washington, D.C. on September 19, 2012 in the first game of the three match series.
Nationals turned out victorious at the back of the tremendous innings thrown by their relievers.
In the first four innings, the score was tied which meant that a couple of runs by either team from there onward had to be decisive.
When the Nationals posted one run in the fifth and also in the sixth, their lead became stronger.
Given the fact that during the penultimate innings pressure is intense, something out of the ordinary from the part of the Dodgers was required to turn the outcome of the game against the Nationals.
However, as the Nationals boast reliable arms, Dodgers were outwitted by them easily. No wonder they could not even draw a single run from their relievers.
Zimmermann completed six innings and gave up one run. He earned the win. The last two innings that were thrown by Drew Storen and Tyler Clippard were also critical to the success of the Nationals. Clippard claimed the save.
Offensively Washington saw third baseman Ryan Zimmerman and catcher Kurt Suzuki doing the bulk of the contribution.
Zimmerman faced four at-bats and struck two hits on Wednesday.
''I was a little out of sync,'' Zimmermann said. ''The last three innings, I felt much better and was able to control everything.''
Suzuki expresses the intent of his team at the moment stating that they are eyeing on winning the Division title. After the Nationals’ failure against the Atlanta Braves recently, they were in dire need of winning matches. In this regard, they will be happy
as they beat the Dodgers on Wednesday.
''We're really not thinking about that. Definitely, I'm not, anyway,'' said Kurt Suzuki. ''We're thinking about winning the division.''
Despite the victory, Washington’s manager Davey Johnson will be conscious of the fact that offensively they were not at their best in the match. He will be looking to see better performances from Jayson Werth and Bryce Harper next time. Let’s see which strategy
his hitters come up with in the upcoming games.
