Jordan Zimmermann sparks as Washington Nationals defeat Arizona Diamondbacks, 6-1 – MLB Update
Washington Nationals’ starter, Jordan Zimmermann had a notable day as he threw seven innings with an ERA of 3.61 in the Nationals’ 6-1 victory against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field, Arizona on June 2.
The batters also put their efforts and started their first inning well as they blasted three runs. Michael Morse singled to centre-field and Ian Desmond posted one run. The last two runs of the first inning were taken by Morse and Danny Espinosa when Wilson
Ramos doubled to deep centre-field. The Nationals were on top 3-0 after the first inning.
No run was contributed from the second to fourth inning as the pitchers threw the ball in perfect areas to raise the momentum of their teams. In the fifth inning, the Nationals got a 4-0 lead when Ramos hit a grounder towards short-stop and Morse posted
his second run of the game. Espinosa was unable to add another run and got out at second base during the fifth inning.
Sixth inning went in favour of the pitchers as they did not permit any run to the batters. The Diamondbacks got off the mark during seventh inning to cut their deficit 4-1 when Miguel Montero scored a single run on the grounder of Gerardo Parra at first
base.
The score-board was unmoved in the eighth inning, as Zimmermann allowed just one run on six hits with one earned run. He struck out four batters and gave just one walk on his 97 pitches. Zimmermann expressed his feelings and said, “I've felt good the whole
season and I've just been stringing some good starts together. Hopefully, it continues.”
The Nationals’ manager, Jim Riggleman was content with the way Zimmermann pitched right through his seven innings. Speaking to reporters, Riggleman said, “I'm happy for him and what he's done for our ballclub, coming from where he did after that surgery
and everything, to just keep coming back from it. He's just a horse.” The relievers also pitched superbly for the Nationals as they were score-less in their mutual two inning pitches.
During the ninth inning, the Nationals took their score-card 6-1 by posting two runs. Roger Bernadina tripled to deep right-centre and Brian Bixler scored a single run. The last run of the game was taken by Bernadina on the drive of Morse towards centre-field.
