Jordan Zimmermann’s experience strengthens case for Stephen Strasburg’s innings limit - MLB Update
The debate about the Washington Nationals’ ace Stephen Strasburg related to an innings limit has reached such a level that the General Manager Mike Rizzo has stepped in and offered clarification.
At the same time, a revelation has come that Jordan Zimmermann has been terrific in this season mainly due to the fact that he observed special care for a couple of years after he went through Tommy John surgery.
This has substantiated the point held by the Nationals’ club-house that they will stick to their innings-limit plan for Strasburg.
Therefore, just like the way Zimmermann has improved drastically now after throwing in the last few years under an innings limit, the Nationals are looking forward to the same happening in the case of Strasburg.
Ever since the season has started, the experts have been speculating over whether the Nationals will restrict Strasburg after getting him to throw a certain number of innings or not.
It is for the same reason that as soon as the second half of the season began, it became a burning issue. The questions concerning the time-line of Strasburg’s exit from the season were being put to the Nationals’ management frequently.
With the statement by Zimmermann that he was helped immensely by the extreme care to his arms after undergoing ligament replacement surgery in 2009, Washington can soon announce the timing about when Strasburg will leave the season.
While as per the reports it is 160 innings limit and it remains to be seen after how many innings he is actually going to be stopped by the management.
"I definitely feel stronger another year after surgery," said Zimmermann. "Last year was hit-or-miss. I didn't know how I was going to feel. But this whole year I've been feeling great. I haven't had any aches or pains. So, knock on wood, I hope that keeps
going."
Furthermore, the fact the Nationals possess quality hurlers on rotation, they can afford to send Strasburg home.
They still have names like Gio Gonzalez and Ross Detwiler who can help them sustain their success throughout the season.
Meanwhile, Strasburg will be looking to continue his impressive run of form in the season afloat in the remaining number of innings that he is going to throw.
