Jordi Garcia Pinto takes second spot midway through the second round of the ECCO Tour Championship
Jordi Garcia Pinto fired a seven-under par 65 to be at eight-under par 136, and four strokes behind the leader Klas Eriksson, following the second round of the ECCO Tour Championship hosted by Thomas Björn & Mercedes-Benz in Horsens, Denmark.
He recorded two birdies before the turn and three birdies along with an amazing eagle on the outward nine to surge to the second spot on the leaderboard.
The Spaniard is not used to cooler conditions that surrounded the venue course. Yet, he managed to create the heat of his own after such a scintillating performance.
According to him, it was quite easy for him to get close to the pins after hitting the greens. Therefore, he made most of his putts from close range.
“I holed a long putt from the edge of the green on the 17th, but most of my other putts were from fairly close range,” said the Spaniard, who is a student of law. “Even though the conditions were tough it felt quite easy out there today, which is nice because
golf is never normally easy!”
“I’ve been playing quite well this season, making lots of cuts but not really finishing high enough. So hopefully that can change this week, because I need to start climbing the Rankings,” he added.
He also stated that he loves to play on tougher courses where one needs to be really accurate with the strokes.
According to him, whenever a player birdies or eagles on a tough course, they feel proud of themselves, as they actually deserve the score that they post on the leaderboard.
That was the main reason why he was happy after his performance at the Stensballegaard Golf Klub, as the venue is regarded as one of the toughest golf courses on the Challenge Tour.
He now plans to keep his momentum going into the final two rounds and record the first victory of his 2012 Challenge Tour campaign.
So far, he only has one top-10 finish registered to his name in 16 events that he has played this year.
Therefore, he has a great chance to improve his track record on the tour and make it to a bigger stage – European Tour – by listing his name among the top-20 players in the money list.
