Casillas played a crucial role in helping Los Vikingos secure their 32nd Spanish La Liga title in the recently passed season. The experienced goalkeeper proved to be a giant between the posts as he kept the opposition at bay along with playing
the inspirational role at the back.
However, it was the 30-year-old’s performance with his national side that caught the attention of many.
As La Roja Furia progressed in their campaign to reclaim the European title, their skipper was seen as one of the most important figures in the side. The veteran shot-stopper conceded only once during the Euro 2012 and was given the ‘Goalkeeper of the Tournament’
award.
As a result, many experts suggested that the Madridista should be shortlisted for the FIFA Ballon d’Or.
