Jorge De La Rosa will return in July, says Colorado Rockies pitching Coach Bob Apodaca
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Jorge De La Rosa, whose torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow has created some very serious problems for him earlier, is recovering fast.
His news of coming back onto the field again is also a good sign for the Rockies, but still no official from the management has told the media clear as when he will be getting back and throwing. The speculations are on the row linking to some unauthorised information that is coming from the Rockies.
However, when those speculations started to disturb the Rockies’ management, their pitching coach Bob Apodaca spoke to the media and told the reporters about slight details of De La Rosa’s improvement and potential timing of his comeback.
Apodaca said, “For most people coming back from Tommy John surgery. It’s 13 or 14 months. That's the ones who haven't had any issues or had to take a step back. Jorge had the surgery in late May last year, so you calculate that and it's sometime in July. That's our hope. You are part of the club, but at the same time you are not really part of the club.” He added, “You have to be very self-motivated, and it can be a lonely existence. I can see the anxiety in him; I can see it every day. But he's doing well.”
A former Milwaukee Brewers and Kansas City Royals’ player, La Rosa certainly possesses some huge talent and when the next season starts, his absence will be felt. For over the past eight years, he has been pretty consistent with his numbers. Starting his career as an average pitcher to become one of the most feared pitchers in the League, De La Rosa has come a long way to achieve that particular status. His potential comeback is much needed in the roster.
Last year despite suffering an injury, he was phenomenal with the ball. He single handedly rattled many teams throwing with a 3.51 ERA and 1.19 WHIP. His return in July will be vital for the Rockies, that are currently busy in the 2012 Major League Spring Training in Arizona.
