Jorge Linares to fight Sergio Thompson on March 31 in Oasis Cancun – Boxing News
Two-Division World Champion Jorge ‘El Nino De Oro’ is scheduled to fight Sergio ‘Yeyo’ Thompson on March 31, Saturday, in a lightweight 12-round bout. The show will be hosted by Oasis Cancun in Cancun, Mexico and is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and
Pepe Gomez Promotor Deportivo and sponsored by Corona, Oasis Cancun, Periodico QueQui,
After hosting the highly successful event of the ‘Sabados De Corona’ series of Televisa last month, February, in Oasis Cancun in Cancun, this will be the second episode of the show and the second ever event being hosted by Mexico for the series. The gate
of the arena will open at 6:00 p.m. and the first fight of the event will start at 7:00 p.m. The show will be televised on Canal 5 at 10:30 p.m. CT.
Prices of the tickets are 100 pesos, 500 pesos, 1000 pesos and 1500 pesos.
Jorge Linares, who belongs to Venezuela, currently holds 31 wins and 2 losses in his portfolio. Twenty of his wins came in through knockouts making him capable of staying in the game for nearly a decade now. He has won titles at 126 pounds and 130 pounds
and has faced some of the fiercest fighters of the trade such as Rocky Juarez, Jesus Chavez and Oscar Larios. Jorge has achieved all of this just by the age of 26, making him one of the most successful young boxing stars in the world today. He has won four
of his five last bouts. His only loss in his last five fights came in at the hands of Antonio DeMarco in a bout for the World Boxing Council Lightweight title. Antonio DeMarco was unable to perform well in the bout, however due to the severe cuts Linares got
his side stopped the fight. As of now, Linares says he has completely recovered from the injuries and is ready to fight his upcoming opponent.
On the other hand, this fight will be a hometown encounter for Sergio Thompson who has 21 wins and 2 losses in his portfolio. Nineteen of his wins have come in through knockouts. He won the WBC Mundo Hispano and the WBC Fecarbox championship and is currently
holding onto a seven fight winning streak, which he plans to prolong.
