Jorge Lorenzo and Ben Spies desire win for Yamaha 50th GP anniversary – MotoGP news
Yamaha Factory Racing riders Jorge Lorenzo and Ben Spies hope to win the upcoming Iveco TT Assen Grand Prix, Netherlands.
They are trying to win the event because of Yamaha’s 50th Grand Prix anniversary. It is also a crucial event for Lorenzo to regain the championship lead from Stoner.
In order to celebrate Yamaha’s 50th anniversary in grand prix racing, the factory M1s will be coloured in red and white and will have a new design. With fresh looking M1, both riders will race at Assen for good results and pay a tribute to Yamaha’s
five decades of achievement. Yamaha will also launch its brand exhibition at the Dutch TT Assen which will continue throughout the week.
Yamaha Factory Racing rider, Jorge Lorenzo said, “Assen is my favourite track where I've won in all categories and also last season. This year it is very special coming here because we celebrate the 50th Anniversary! Now we are in second position in the
Championship, we come here looking to put pressure on the leader.”
Lorenzo added that he is focused to repeat his efforts at TT Assen as he has done in the past but with full extent. The least Lorenzo expects is a podium finish. The Spaniard and his team are determined for a successful race weekend. The Spaniard has a great
record at the Dutch venue as he has won races in all three categories and likes to race at Assen.
Ben Spies wrecked his M1 at Silverstone, but luckily walked uninjured from the accident. After smashing his back protector into the wall fortunately his back was not damaged. Though he didn’t suffer any injuries or fracture but his back is still aching.
Yamaha Factory Racing rider, Ben Spies said, “I’ve really been looking forward to coming to Assen again. It’s a track I love and the Yamaha M1 seems to really work well here. It’s a fast track which I really enjoy, I have so many memories of watching the
racing on TV here as a kid, it’s a privilege to race here now.”
Spies has taken pole seat along a win at the Assen in 2009 season of WSBK. The American finished fourth in his rookie MotoGP season.
