Jorge Lorenzo and Ben Spies plan to test soft slick in free practice 3 at Motegi – MotoGP news
Jorge Lorenzo of Yamaha Factory Racing was only able to make it to the 2nd position in the free practice 2 session of Japanese Grand Prix using hard compound tyres.
He plans testing soft compound tyres during free practice 3 session. His teammate Ben Spies was also unable to try soft compounds.
Lorenzo was unable to match the fast pace of Honda machine and could only make it to the second position. He told that he was testing the bike with hard compound tyres and will try using soft slicks for the free practice 3 session. He added that they modified the electronics of the bike which added to the speed of their Yamaha machine.
He said, “We have a very good pace and with a little change in the electronics were able to go a bit faster. We tried with the hard tyre, for me it’s not better than the soft although we can go fast on it.”
The championship leader added that he feels same on both soft and hard compound tyres however the speed of the bike improves. Besides, he said that Honda is very competitive on the Japanese circuit however he anticipates that he will be able to compete for the victory.
“The Hondas are very good here but our bike is also so I think we can fight with them for the victory,” Lorenzo said.
His teammate, Ben Spies, said that he is satisfied with their performance on the first day of the practice. He told that they were lacking pace in the morning however the bike started responding well, later. Besides, he told that they were unable to test the soft compounds and believes that their opponents gained improved speed with soft slicks. He added that they will test the soft compounds to improve their speed on the circuit.
Spies said, “I think it’s unlikely as everyone who went out faster than us at the end was on the softer option, so to be eight tenths off on the hard is not so bad.”
Honda seems to be strong at the Japanese circuit however Lorenzo does not seem to let Japanese GP go easily. Let’s see how the old rivals battle on the race day for victory over Motegi.
