Jorge Lorenzo eying victory at Brno, Czech Republic
The Moto GP season has already reached the end of its first half with Spaniard Jorge Lorenzo leading the standings. It is largely due to the fact that Italian driver Valentino Rossi, who has remained the world champion for a record seven times, is making a return to his winning ways after a horrific accident he suffered during the Italian championship earlier in the year.
With the season heading towards it climax, Jorge Lorenzo took a well deserved break on the eve of the start of the second part of the season at Brno, Czech Republic this weekend.
The Spaniard disclosed that he spent the time between the two races by vacationing with his friends as he wanted to take some time off and replenish his energies, as the crucial part of the season approaches.
Lorenzo hopes that the rest would rekindle his passion for the race as he aims to bag the world championship this season with another dominating performance in Brno.
"Actually I had the first holiday in my racing career,” disclosed Lorenzo, at a media conference that he was addressing and went on to add "I think I needed it, because for me, this year has been quite intensive about racing. I just spent some days with my friends, take a little bit of sun and rest and I am fine to restart the championship."
The Spaniard has had a dream run this year and has been helped by Rossi’s accident last year.
Lorenzo has a total of six wins and three second places under his belt this season, surging ahead to a lead in the championship by 72 points.
He remained upbeat about his chances in the Czech Republic, yet revealed that a loss won’t disappoint him too much.
The Fiat Yamaha rider added that it was not a case of desperation. However, for his pursuit of the title, he wanted to play his card smartly and in accordance with the situation.
"I love Brno track very much because for my riding style is quite complete," Lorenzo said. "I won three times here, never in MotoGP so we will try to get first victory here, but as always, our main objective is to win the world title."
Lorenzo knows that a championship win will not be easy to come and he would have to ensure that he finds a way past the reigning world champion Valentino Rossi.
Rossi, who made a dramatic recovery well before time, has an impressive record at the venue, winning the Brno race on a staggering five occasions.
The Italian, who crashed heavily during the event in Mugello, claimed that he was yet to return to peak fitness.
"I feel better than in Laguna. All improve now more slowly than at the beginning for sure but constantly so for sure I am not at the maximum," Rossi said.
"With the pain I improve a lot my power so I think and I expect to have a bit less problem to ride the bike at the maximum," the Yamaha rider admitted.
The race would also be important on other counts, as the Italian is expected to make an announcement on his future plans either during the event or shortly after.
While responding to journalists’, Rossi hinted that he was set to make an announcement on Sunday after the race.
