Jorge Lorenzo of Yamaha Factory Racing holds on to second place at US Grand Prix – MotoGP news
Yamaha Factory Racing rider Jorge Lorenzo ended up at second place in the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix held at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
Although the Spaniard led the race from the start, but with just three laps remaining on the countdown, he was hunt down by Casey Stoner for the win.
Lorenzo said, “Well first of all I’m lucky to be in the second position, after the crash yesterday I thought it wasn’t possible to race for a little while. After qualifying I hoped I might be able to fight till the end for victory but sometimes expectations
are not reality.”
The Spanish rider made a strong effort to score the pole seat for the US GP, but he was hampered by an unfortunate accident that he faced in FP3.
Though the accident did not cause any major injuries but he was down on confidence with a sore body. For some time at the beginning of the race, he was not confident about a race-winning pace. However, he was able to take the lead from the pole start, leaving
all three Repsol Hondas in his pursuit.
For about 26 laps, Lorenzo was fast and successful to hold Dani Pedrosa and Casey Stoner in second and third positions respectively. However, later in the race, he struggled with the grip of his bike and due to fatigue. Due to that, he lost his position
and finished second.
Lorenzo further added, “Casey was faster today, I couldn’t match his pace at the end. My physical condition is not so perfect which makes us a bit slow as well. Second is ok, we are only 20 points behind Casey and we’ll try again next time.”
The Spaniard in the Factory Yamaha team was still optimistic with a second place finish to the race. Even after dropping five more points in the world championship, he is willing to attempt and regain his lead in the Brno, Czech Republic round.
