Jorge Lorenzo of Yamaha Factory Racing says straight is their weakest point – MotoGP news
Jorge Lorenzo of Yamaha Factory Racing tested their new 2013 chassis in the privately conducted test session at Aragon.
To cater to their weakest area at straight they will be testing a new engine during the second day of the test.
He said that they tried the new chassis and have not found any positive or negative thing about it. He added that have to keep trying and do more laps to better understand the bike.
He said, “We tried the new chassis. So far we haven’t found a positive or a negative thing. We have to keep trying and do more laps to see.”
Lorenzo said that they will try the new engine on the second day of the test. He anticipates that it will give them a little more power during the straight. He added that straight is their weakest point and they lose almost 5 km/h to Dani Pedrosa of Repsol
Honda.
“Tomorrow we are going to try the new engine. Maybe this will give us a little bit more power on the straight. This is our weaker point – we are losing almost 5kmh to Dani,” he said.
Furthermore, he said that Pedrosa is also very light but the engine of his bike is a little bit faster. He added that they are pleased because they have successfully improved their lap times by half a second as compared to the previous one, a few months
ago.
The Yamaha rider said, “Dani is also very light, but for sure his engine is a little bit faster.”
The private test at Aragon was a continuation of the test session at Brno for Yamaha. Lorenzo completed his fastest lap during the first day of test in 1 minute and 48.471 seconds. His first competitor, Pedrosa completed his fastest lap during the private
test session in 1 minute and 47.983 seconds.
The two Spanish riders are heading towards the championship title, side by side with only a difference of 13 points with Lorenzo having the lead. The tests conducted will aid Yamaha to better understand their new developments for the next 2013 season.
