Jorge Lorenzo of Yamaha team settles at second place on the grid for Iveco Australian GP – MotoGP
Yamaha Factory Racing rider Jorge Lorenzo scored second seat on the grid for Sunday’s Iveco Australian Grand Prix.
The 16th MotoGP event will be held at the famous Phillip Island circuit.
Lorenzo said, “We did a very good job today. We tried many things and I believe we have the right set up for tomorrow. I have to thank my team who worked hard to make sure I have the best possible bike to fight with.”
The Spanish rider did top the time chart for qualifying practice session but after the mid of the session he was hunted by HRC riders. Following Lorenzo’s best lap time his compatriot, Dani Pedrosa of Repsol Honda took the top seat.
The top fastest man in the qualifying practice session became the homeboy Casey Stoner who eventually took the pole seat by the end of the session. Stoner was able to beat his best lap time by twice.
Lorenzo added, “The race will be very tough, it will be very important to be consistent with a good race pace. I will try to win, I know it will be very difficult here with Casey but I will try!”
The Spanish Yamaha rider took the courage to stand in the second place as after losing the first position he was dropped to the second row line up.
Following the Casey Stoner’s best lap time, he managed to hit the time chart with his top pace. Lorenzo scored the second place on the grid between two HRC riders Stoner, first and Marco Simoncelli, third.
Unfortunately, his teammate Ben Spies was out of luck today. The Texan boy had a hard fall on the track at almost 250Km/h. He headed into a low side and slammed into asphalt, sliding into run off gravel.
However, he was immediately stretchered to the medical facility. Spies escapes any injury but had bruises on his ribs and body. He returned on the track aboard his second M1 later in the session and collected seventh position on the grid.
