Jorge Lorenzo patient while Ben Spies gaining confidence for Montmelo Circuit – MotoGP news
Yamaha Factory Racing riders Jorge Lorenzo and Ben Spies are facing different emotions while entering the Gran Premi Aperol de Catalunya on June 5, 2011.
In the last race at the Le Mans circuit, the Yamaha factory riders could not compete for better results. In the tussle, Lorenzo lost form Andrea Dovizioso and Valentino Rossi who came second and third respectively in the French GP. Meanwhile his teammate
Ben Spies struggled to finish sixth behind Marco Simoncelli.
Despite coming fourth in the French GP, Jorge Lorenzo is leading the world championship points table with a lead of 12 points from Casey Stoner.
The Spaniard said, “Le Mans was a really tough weekend for us. We never had a great set-up on the bike - too many wheelies. But we did the maximum. We tried to stay with the Hondas at the beginning of the race. I pushed 100 per cent. I wasted all my energy
at the end of the race I lost so many seconds because my physical condition was a little low.”
He also added that Yamaha will surely gain the benefit of corner speeds at the Montmelo circuit. He said with his Yamaha M1, they will beat main contenders Repsol Honda with ease.
The American rider in Yamaha factory, Ben Spies wants to have a new start to his 2011 MotoGP season. The season start has been unfortunate for the Texan and he is struggling to gain back his confidence for the crucial Catalan GP.
Spies said, “That's the way racing is, it's not always great. The start of the year was okay in Qatar. We went to Jerez and obviously I made a mistake in the rain and we had a small problem at Estoril.”
The America rider is yet to score a podium in his Yamaha factory debut season, with just two sixth place finishes from the first four events in 2011. In his opinion, the team is going in the right direction but somehow the anticipated results have not been
achieved.
