Jorge Lorenzo says no pressure on him following Valentino Rossi’s return in 2013 – MotoGP news
Having won the MotoGP Championship for the second time in 2012, the reigning MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo claims he does not feel any pressure on Valentino Rossi’s return to Yamaha Factory Racing for the 2013 season.
Lorenzo has emphasised that he knows how to handle Rossi’s personality while keeping in focus his own priorities, Lorenzo’s main priority being the defence of his MotoGP Championship title.
“Rossi is charismatic and has many fans but that doesn't put pressure on me. Having won four world titles (two at 250cc level) I feel absolutely no pressure. Everything that I do in the future will be a bonus,” Lorenzo said while talking to Gazzetta dello
Sport.
Lorenzo is only 25-years of age. He is young and has a lot of energy which he is bound to utilise in the years to come. Keeping in consideration Lorenzo’s performance over the past three seasons, the Spanish rider is likely to put in his best efforts to
defend the championship title in 2013 season. Odds are in Lorenzo’s favour following Casey Stoner’s retirement and the bad patch that his teammate Valentino Rossi is going through.
Lorenzo is aware of the fact that room for improvement is always there. Lorenzo knows the areas where he needs to improve.
“I can still improve at breaking away,” Lorenzo said. “With my riding style I could brake a bit later sometimes or ride in a different way. Also, I'm not perfect in the rain.”
Lorenzo and Rossi have a history of rivalry which started when they were teammates from 2008 until 2010. Famous MotoGP personalities like Masao Furusawa, godfather of Yamaha M1 and Giacomo Agostini, 15-time world champion have already predicted renewal of
animosity between the Yamaha teammates on their reunion in the 2013 season. Although Lorenzo has negated this idea numerous times now saying that there will be no animosity between him and Rossi this time around, but still common consensus is that Rossi-Lorenzo
feud is going to affect the championship run of Jorge Lorenzo.
