Jorge Lorenzo says there is room for improvement – MotoGP news
Reigning MotoGP title champion, Jorge Lorenzo has said that there still remains a lot of room for improvements in his riding skills and techniques.
Lorenzo had an outstanding run in the 2012 MotoGP season. He won 6 rounds and posted 16 podium finishes out of a total of 18 Grand Prix, clinching a total of 350 championship points. In the rest of the two rounds, Lorenzo could not finish because he had
to retire from those races.
Statistically, 2010 MotoGP season was better than 2012 for Lorenzo. The Yamaha rider won 9 Grand Prix rounds and scored a record 383 championship points in 2010. Even then, according to Lorenzo 2012 was better than the 2010 season for him.
“In my opinion [2012] has been my best season. Even compared to 2010, when I won my first MotoGP title. Back then I won more races and scored a record number of points. But this has been a more balanced season, with many strong riders. We have always been
serene and we never made any mistakes – almost,” Lorenzo said in an interview to Gazzetta dello Sport.
For the last consecutive 4 MotoGP seasons, Lorenzo has either finished as a MotoGP champion or as a runner-up. Between 2009 and 2012 MotoGP seasons, the 25-year-old rider has won 2 world champion titles, has finished 1st in 22 Grand Prix rounds and has posted
54 podium finishes.
Despite an outstanding track record over the last four MotoGP season, and a triumphant 2012 season, Lorenzo believes that he still needs to improve in certain areas such as under braking and riding in wet conditions.
“I can still improve under braking. For my riding style, in some cases I can brake a little later or ride differently. Also, I'm not perfect in the rain,” Lorenzo admitted.
Improved riding technique or not, Lorenzo will definitely be looking forward to defend his world champion title in the upcoming season. With Valentino Rossi’s return to Yamaha, Lorenzo will put in extra efforts to stay on top for yet another season and expectations
are that he will be able to do so.
