Jorge Lorenzo secures pole position for 2012 Spanish Grand Prix – MotoGP news
Jorge Lorenzo of Yamaha has secured the pole position for 2012 Spanish Grand Prix which is to be held at Jerez circuit on April 29.
Lorenzo showed an amazing performance and set the best time of 1 minute and 39.532 seconds in the qualifying practice. He remained ahead of his compatriot, Dani Pedrosa of Repsol Honda team who came second on the timesheets with his best finish of 1 minute
39.667 seconds. Even though, Pedrosa topped the schedule of FP3, however, he could not manage to keep up his pace in QP.
Moreover, after taking the pole, the Spanish rider expressed that they are feeling pleased and are looking forward to the race. He also said that he rode persistently during the qualifying practice.
“We are very happy with this pole,” Lorenzo said. “It was a strange session because of the water so you had to pay a lot of attention and not crash. I was patient and started late, and now we see what happens in the race.”
Nicky Hayden of Ducati came third after setting his best lap time of 1 minute and 40.563 seconds. Cal Crutchlow of Monster Yamaha Tech 3 who set his best time of 1 minute and 40.570 seconds followed the American rider.
Pedrosa’s teammate, Casey Stoner set the fifth best time of 1 minute and 40.577 seconds. Stoner was followed by Ben Spies of Yamaha whose best finish was 1 minute and 41.090 seconds.
Crutchlow’s teammate, Andrea Dovizioso secured seventh grid position for the race ahead with his best time of 1 minute and 41.180 seconds.
The Italian rider remained ahead of Alvaro Bautista of San Carlo Honda Gresini who set the eighth best time of 1 minute and 41.447 seconds. Bautista was followed by Stefan Bradl of LCR Honda MotoGP who managed to secure 9th grid position for the race.
Randy De Puniet of Power Electronics Aspar set the tenth best time of 1 minute and 41.700 seconds. De Puniet was ahead of Karel Abraham of Cardion AB Motoracing who set his best lap time of 1 minute and 41.724 seconds.
Hector Barbera of Pramac Racing team came 12th after setting his best time of 1 minute and 41.871 seconds.
The seven-time world champion, Valentino Rossi of Ducati, yet again delivered quite an unfortunate qualifying performance as he could only set the 13th best time of 1 minute and 42.961 seconds.
Aleix Espargaro of Aspar Aprilia followed Rossi and secured 14th place in the grid for the upcoming race. Espargaro stayed ahead of Michele Pirro of San Carlo Honda Gresini who set his best time of 1 minute and 43.363 seconds.
There is no doubt that the rider’s pace on track in the approaching race is crucial, nevertheless, the weather conditions and the tyre management will also act as critical factors.
