Jorge Lorenzo continues to dominate the MotoGP circuit; the Spaniard won the British MotoGP at Silverstone, and extended his lead at the top of rider standings to 37 points.

Lorenzo, a FIAT Yamaha driver, was hardly challenged in the race, leading from the start of the race till the end, after starting from pole position.

Andrea Dovizioso, who won the same race in 2009, was close in 2nd place this time, and there was a new name on the podium when American Ben Spies managed his best finish, getting the 3rd place at the end of the race.

His compatriot Nicky Hayden was overtaken by Casey Stoner for the 4th spot, while Frenchman Randy de Puniet got the 7th spot, and Dani Pedrosa was 8th.

Pedrosa, who had been sitting pretty on 2nd position on the Championship table, did not have the best weekend. His problems stared during qualifying, where he crashed on Saturday, causing bruising to both knees, but his problems were not to end there. He once again fell in the final practice session on Sunday; hence he was just not himself in the race.

On the other hand, it was the 3rd win For Lorenzo in 5 races. The Spaniard is a firm favourite to win the Championship now, especially after his teammate and former world champion Valentino Rossi broke his leg in the Italian GP, and is understandably out for the season.

After winning the race, a jubilant Lorenzo said that he was very excited with the win. He said that he did not expect to achieve the pace he got in the early stages of the race; the track he said was very cold and with the tyres he was using, it was very difficult to get a firm grip on the track. Lorenzo is certain that this win will go a long way towards him winning the Championship this season.

Dovizioso had a productive race, which saw him move up 2 places from 4th to 2nd in the championship table. Pedrosa lost one place to move to the 3rd spot.

Although Dovizioso did not manage to win the race, he was content with the final outcome, saying that it was a controlled race. Dovizioso added that he did not have the pace to match Lorenzo, but within his own limitations he did the best he could. Lorenzo, according to him, was a bit too quick, but the end result of the race will benefit him in the long run.

The American rider Spies was also overjoyed with his first podium finish. He said that he went all out in search of the 3rd place; Nicky Hayden gave him some good competition, but in the end, he did manage to finish on the podium.

While in the Moto GP2 race, it was Jules Cluzel of France riding for Forward Racing, who won the race, followed in closely by Swiss Thomas Luthi (Interwetten Moriwaki) in 2nd and Julian Simon (Mapfre Aspar) from Spain 3rd.

Cluzel made full use of a minor mistake by Luthi in the thrilling final lap to win his first GP race.

Britain’s Scott Redding was in great touch at the start of the race, but fell away in the middle part of the race, which saw him end in 4th place. However, starting from the 12th spot on the grid, a 4th position was certainly not a bad one.

His compatriot, Bradley Smith, managed to go one better, and got to the podium for the very first time.

There was an enthralling battle at the front that Marc Marquez ended up winning, when his fellow Spaniard Pol Espargaro could not control his bike on the final lap while trying to overtake him.
