Jorge Martinez Aspar confirms European Grand Prix will also have double DRS zones – Formula 1 news
Organiser of the European Grand Prix, Jorge Martinez Aspar has confirmed that two Drag Reduction System zones will be allowed in the Valencia Grand Prix after the Canadian Grand Prix.
He also mentioned that he is very hopeful for the European race event that it will be a very interesting show for the viewers.
The European racetrack is a semi-street circuit but it has no tight corners. However, use of the DRS twice in every lap of the Valencia race will provide easy overtaking chances to the teams, as it has been expected for the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix.
The organiser also informed the media that they have reduced the ticket prices of the Valencia Grand Prix by 12 percent for attracting maximum race day spectators. He added, “We have a contract until 2014, with the option to renew for five more years until
2019, and we believe that we will meet the deadline.”
With regards to Valencia’s street circuit race history, it has not provided the most exciting Formula 1 races in the previous seasons so far. However, this year, the teams are hopeful the 2011 movable rear wings of the cars could bring an interesting change
during the race.
Apart from that, the Spanish motor racing federation president Carlos Gracia insisted, “The two Spanish races have contracts in force and I know they are current in their payments and want to fulfil their contracts. We might have to change the date so they
are not so close together but two grands prix in Spain can live together perfectly well.”
For the upcoming Montreal race, the teams are very excited as they believe double DRS zones will give them good overtaking opportunities over there and will make the race more interesting.
The International Automobile Federation (FIA) allowed the double DRS zones in the 2011 season for the first time at the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix. It will now be used for the second time at the Valencia race weekend in the ongoing season.
The season is getting tougher among the strong rivals of Formula 1, as it is moving towards the most challenging races of the 2011 Formula 1 race calendar.
