Jorge Posada not to return to the New York Yankees – MLB News
It might be a bad news for the New York Yankees to know that Jorge Posada has confirmed that he is not coming back to the club for the next season.
According to the right-handed player, who became a free agent last week, has stated that although he has been a part of the Bronx Bombers throughout his career, but now he has decided to move forward and five to six teams has shown interest.
"It does not gonna happen," Posada said. "I don't think there is even a percentage of a chance that I can come back."
In a function arranged at Manhattan for his Jorge Posada Foundation, the veteran slugger stated that the Yankees served him as a second family and it would be a tough task for him to put on another uniform. He added however, the situation now has turned
into a point where he has made the decision as being the best thing for his career.
"At the end of the day, it's a business," he added. "You look back and you wish there were some things that could've gone differently, but they didn't. Everything happened for a reason. I am not bitter at the Yankees. I am not bitter at (manager) Joe Girardi.
I am not bitter at (general manager) Brian Cashman. It just happens."
Posada, whose $52 million four-year contract ended with the 2011 season, seems not to show urgency in decision, as according to his close people, the 40-year-old will wait until next year to make his mind up so that he get ample time to think. Posada does
not want to make any decision in hurry.
Posada commented that many teams have shown interest but he was still undecided about his future as he was enjoying time with his family. Posada does not even know about his decision as yet.
Yankees’ General Manager Brian Cashman did not confirm the decision. Cashman stated that he has not talked to the representative of Posada and all things will be made clear after an appropriate discussion.
Posada was the star of the American League Division Series, in which he touched .429, but his regular season was a career worst. He hit only 14 home-runs and made just 44 RBIs with a career lowest .235 batting average. He had problems against the left-handers,
to whom he made just six hits over 64 at-bats.
