Jorge Rivera, a 39-year-old fighter, entered the brutal octagonal ring of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) for the last time in his life and came out proudly as a victor on January 20, 2012.
Jorge Rivera who started his UFC career with a win left his battleground as a winner and announced retirement.
According to the news, Rivera, the middleweight combatant who has never won a title in his whole UFC career, announced his retirement after totally knocking out cold his last opponent Eric Schafer. The bout was scheduled as an under card with the brawl between
Guillard and Miller headlining the UFC on FX pay-per-view.
Jorge Rivera had never been a threat to the UFC middleweight roster, but what made him special was his determination, age, resilience and the love for fighting. Jorge, an orthodox fighter and a specialist in Muay Thai and boxing, punched off his UFC career
in 2003. His first skirmish was against David Loiseau in UFC-44 in which emerged victorious by a unanimous decision.
Since then he has thrown himself in 22 UFC bouts, winning 14. Despite being aged, Jorge continued to take on competitors and put forth many startling and impressive bouts for his fans.
Rivera overcame the 34-year-old Eric in the second round of the bout. Although the first round was dominated by the more powerful Jiu-Jitsu black belt Eric, yet Jorge’s fighting experience worked for him. After analysing that his opponent had become weak,
Jorge placed a decisive blow and won by knock out.
When asked to comment on the bout, the El Conquistador said, “I believe in my jiu-jitsu. I felt him getting weaker in the second round. I believed that he would tire and I would be able to win” and he proved that he was right. On announcing his retirement
the proud winner said Look, I’ll be 40 years old later this year. This is a younger man’s game. These other guys up here, they are awesome.”
When asked about is post-retirement life, Rivera said that he wants to start his own mixed martial arts training school for young lads. Jorge Rivera is certainly a fighter, who should be praised for his inspiring determination since he lost every now and
then but did not lose hope, always coming back from the abyss of lose to shine in the limelight. He came in UFC as a winner and left it as a victor.
