The Malaga stopper seems to be on his way back to the Eredivisie before the start of the 2012/13 season, as two of the Dutch giants are taking keen interest in acquiring his services.
Reports in Dutch and Spanish media indicate that Ajax Amsterdam and Feyenoord Rotterdam have expressed keen interest in signing Malaga defender, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Joris-Mathijsen-c19242, before the start of the 2012/13 season.
The 32-year-old stopper, who started his professional career at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Willem-II-c40945 Tilburg in the 1998/99 season, joined La Liga outfit in the summer of 2011 after making over 100 league appearances for Hamburger.
The Dutch international, who has thus far represented Los Boquerone in 28 league games, could be on the move away from his current side, as the club is reportedly plagued by financial problems.
Ajax are in search of a central defender after the departure of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jan-Vertonghen-c17814 to Tottenham Hotspur last month.
The Amsterdammers head coach, Frank de Boer, earlier earmarked FC Twente’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Niklas-Moisander-c27919 as the Belgian defender’s replacement. However, it seems like the 31-time Eredivisie champions have now set their
sights on Mathijsen.
Meanwhile, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ron-Vlaar-c31697, who recently moved to Aston Villa. Reports in Dutch media suggest that the Alkmaar outfit would be tabling a bid in the coming days to acquire
Mathijsen’s services.
However, the Rotterdammers technical director, Martin van Geel, has insisted that it will not be an easy task to lure the vastly experienced defender to De Kuip Stadion this summer.
“It's true that we know each other pretty well. He is a real professional and a good defender. However, it remains to be seen whether we can afford him”, Van Geel was quoted as saying to Voetbal International.
Mathijsen has an ongoing contract at Malaga that is due to expire at the end of the 2012/13 season. Reports indicate that an offer in the region of six million Euros would be enough to lure the 32-year-old central defender away
from La Rosaleda Malaga in the ongoing summer transfer window.
