José María Olazábal: Padraig Harrington must beat world's best to qualify for the Ryder Cup
The time is almost here for the biggest event of the year, the 2012 Ryder Cup. The venue for this prestigious event is the Medinah Golf Course.
The Ryder Cup will open for the public on the 22nd of September but the actual battle between the continents begins on the 28th of September and it is going to end on the 30th September, after three days of magnificent display
of golf.
The biggest names in the world of golf are trying their best to qualify for the tournament at Medinah.
This year the captain for the European team is the Spanish professional golfer, Jose Maria Olazabal and the captain for the American team is Davis Love. The captains of the two teams have to perform a key role in making the teams.
The list of players trying to get selected in the European side also includes Padraig Harrington. Olazabal is not going to make the selection easy on any player. He just wants the best in his team. For this reason he has also given Harrington an ultimatum,
a rather difficult one.
Olazabal expects Harrington to win the Barclays Championship, which he is playing right now. The venue for the tournament is the Bethpage State Park, Black Course.
On the first day of the four-day tournament, Harrington had a slow start but later on, he got aggressive and played some good golf.
On the front nine, he carded a bogey on the third hole. This one was the only one of the match for the player. Later, on the front nine he carded two birdies on the fourth and seventh hole. These made his score one-under par.
Harrington completely turned his game around on the back nine. He managed to card six birdies which made his score six-under par and his total score climbed up to seven-under par.
At the end of the first day, Harrington was on top of the table, just one stroke clear of the second position.
Now he has a chance and can easily be a part of Olazabal team. He just needs to see this win through.
