http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jos-Buttler-c1733 awarded incremental contract by ECB – Cricket News Update
Owing to his consistent appearances for the English national side in the T20 format of the game, batsman Jos Buttler has been awarded an incremental contract by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
“This award reflects the contribution Jos has made this year in the shorter formats of the game for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Geoffrey-Miller-c58870.
The young right-hander qualifies for the contract after having played a total of 9 T20Is and one ODI for England during 2011-2012. Non-central contracted players are granted incremental contracts on the basis of a points system – players earn 5 points for
a Test match, and 2 points for a one-day or a T20I appearance. The contract is awarded after a player has accumulated 20 points.
Buttler started his cricketing career with County club http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Somerset-c843 in 2009, and has gone on to play a total of 39 first-class matches (with 1523 runs to his credit), 50 list A matches (1630 runs), and 68 T20s (936 runs) during his domestic career. In addition,
he has also played for the England http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lions-c808 and the England Under-19s.
His international career got off to a faltering start when he was included in the playing XI for a T20I played against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 at Manchester during August – however, he did not earn a turn at bat.
Buttler appeared to be in for a similar disappointment when he was called up for England’s T20 squad for a series against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 in September 2011. While he did not bat, yet again during the first match, the second game at the Oval saw him finally
stepping up to the pitch, where he contributed 13 runs before his exit.
An Only T20I against India again saw Buttler going without his turn at bat, but he was included in the squad for the 3-match T20I series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 this year in February 2012, and in the line-up for a T20I against the West Indies in Nottingham during
June, registering mediocre performances during both appearances.
His moment of glory finally arrived during the 3-match T20I series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 in early September this year. While he managed only 6 in the first match, and did not bat in the second, the third match saw the 22-year-old scoring a match-winning,
unbeaten 32.
The contribution from a young and promising batsman, coming in the wake of Kevin Pietersen’s exile from the team, and in the face of the then-approaching World Twenty20 in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, strengthened the English team’s confidence prior to the T20 mega event
(where they are currently playing as the defending champions) and Buttler was named in the national 15-man squad for the World T20.
“International cricket hasn't quite gone as I'd have hoped but days like this are really pleasing and give me a lot of confidence to take into Sri Lanka,” Buttler had said after his match-winning knock against the Proteas. “It was something I was desperate
to get in an England shirt, to have that innings.”
