Over the moon with his performance in the last One Day International (ODI) against New Zealand at Nottingham, Jos Buttler, the wicketkeeper batsman, revealed that he did not know that he was so close to the fastest half-century of the ODI history.
In a T20 International last year, the hard-hitting batsman struck an unbeaten 32 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 off just 10 balls; however, he was yet to make a big impact in the 50-overs format until yesterday.
“I had a similar innings in the Twenty20 International against South Africa not so long ago, and haven't quite performed as I'd want to in the one-dayers until now,” said the middle-order batsman. “But it's great to put in a performance like that here, to give me a bit of confidence.”
With just 25 balls left in the innings, the Poms had just scored 210 runs for the loss of five wickets when Buttler came to the crease. He gave the required impetus to the English innings and smashed 47 unbeaten runs off merely 16 balls, which included six boundaries and three hits out of the park.
As a result, the home team was able to post 287 runs on the board, which proved to be more than enough for the visitors. The cricketer from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Somerset-c843 was named as the Player of the Match for his stunning knock.
Buttler needed five runs on the last ball to complete his half-century; however, he could manage just a couple and fell short by three runs from registering his name in the record books.
“I didn't know about the record. I think my team-mate http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Eoin-Joseph-Gerard-Morgan-c56032 mentioned it, when I came off, that it would have been the fastest half-ton. Anyway, it was great to bat anyway,” the talented batsman added.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AN-Cook-c1026 also admitted after the match that Buttler changed the course of the game.
“Clearly there was some outstanding hitting at the end - which made a difference,” the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749 captain expressed.
With the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Champions Trophy 2013 starting today, Buttler has a great platform to make a name for himself at the world stage.
