Jose A Gonzalez takes on Joseph Laryea in a 10-round bout on Solo Boxeo Tecate – Boxing News
Jose A Gonzalez, the current WBO Latino lightweight champion, will enter the ring to defend his undefeated streak against more experienced Ghanaian proud Joseph Laryea, the former WBO Inter-Continental super featherweight champion, in a 10-round bout to
be held on July 7, 2012.
The duo will meet at the ring set up at Coliseo Antonio R. Barcelo arena situated in Toa Baja, Puerto Rico, headlining the pay-per-view. The showdown is being jointly organised and promoted by Ivan Rivera of Puerto Rico Best Boxing promotions and Bob Arum
of Top Rank.
The event will also witness Glen Tapia in action against Carlos Garcia in a six-round non-title light middleweight bout hence constituting the co-main event. The pay-per-view will be televised live on Telefutura in its highly regarded boxing show Solo Boxeo
Tecate.
Jose, 29, has been in a total of 19 bouts and boasts an undefeated streak. The Puerto Rican proud has nailed 14 of his opponents by knockout and is considered as a lethal knockout pounder.
Also known as ‘Chelo’, Gonzalez grabbed his WBO Latino lightweight gold after collecting a knockout win over Pipino Cuevas Junior. Since then the orthodox has defended his title three times against pretty decent pugilists such as Eddie Soto, Fernando Trejo,
and Hevinson Herrera.
Gonzalez recently took part in the media interaction along with the promoters of the event and shared his thoughts about the bout. Jose’s Saturday night opponent, Joseph, is entering his career’s 21st win. The 27-year-old Ghanaian proud is currently going
through a tough phase of his career.
Also known as ‘Mandingo’, Joseph has collected 11 of his 14 wins by knocking the opponents out cold. Laryea is currently coming off a three-bout lose streak. Since his loss to Ricky Burns, Joseph has not been able to make a comeback on the win track.
His recent losses to opponents with lesser experience easily explain the scenario that Joseph is facing difficulties in grabbing a win. During the press conference Ivan proudly stated, “This Saturday we are going to bring a good show with the fight between
Chelo Gonzalez and Laryea, unbeaten Glen Tapia and other seven bouts at the Coliseo Antonio R. Barcelo in Toa Baja, Chelo’s hometown. This is another step for Chelo in his way to a world title chance.”
Gonzalez, on the other hand, just uttered a one-liner and stated, “These are the challenges I want in my career and in my way to fight for a world title. I’m in good shape and ready to fight.”
Jose will strive hard to defend his flawless resume whereas Joseph is in dire need of grabbing a win and will try his level best to make a return to the win track by nailing Gonzalez.
