Jose Aldo, the current UFC featherweight champion, while sharing his thoughts commented that Erik is a talented and great brawler, adding that he has not taken a good look at him and just knows him as a friend from World Extreme Cage Fighting.
Aldo is fit and all set to make a comeback against Erik Koch in UFC’s third ever pay-per-view to be held in Brazil. The young champion recently gave a detailed interview and shared his thoughts about the upcoming bout and various other matters.
Jose, who was out of the octagon since January 14, 2012, has now fully recuperated from the injury that forced him to pull out of the bout against Erik. Koch and Jose were originally scheduled to headline UFC 149 pay-per-view but Aldo’s inadvertent injury
resulted in the postponement of the bout to October 13, 2012.
The duo will now headline UFC 153 or UFC Rio 3 which will be televised live from HSBC arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The fight card will be co-headlined by the classic middleweight bout between Vitor Belfort and Alan Belcher.
Aldo, during the interview, explained as to how he feels about the injury and revealed that he is perfectly fit and 100% adding that the physiotherapy is over and he is gradually moving towards the training part.
When asked as to what he thinks about Erik as an opponent, Aldo stated, “Erik’s is a great opponent. I know him since WEC, but I haven’t really taken a good look at him yet. In the future, when we get together, I’ll see what he’s like and then I’ll tell
you. For now, I know him as a friend. I talk to him like I talk to everybody.”
Also known as the ‘Scarface’, Aldo is considered as one of the best Brazilian belligerents who are ruling the UFC promotion. Aldo, who will defend his title for the second time in front of his countrymen, remarked that he loves to fight at his hometown,
adding that he wants this scenario to repeat again and again.
Aldo further commented that he likes to end a bout quickly, adding that he does not know what game plan Erik follows. Jose stated, “I don’t know. Every time I fight I want to finish it as soon as possible. But we ought to see how he plays and then we set
a game plan. Only then I’m going to know what it’s going to be like and what can happen but I haven’t done it yet.”
Jose has been in a total of 22 mixed martial art bouts, boasting 21 wins with 13 coming by way of knockout. Erik, also known as ‘New Breed’, will enter his 15th career bout, boasting 13 wins.
