Jose Aldo reportedly offered fight with Kenny Florian
The World Extreme Cagefighting featherweight (145lb) champion, Jose Aldo Jr., has been in the eyes of mixed martial arts fans ever since he rocketed to the top of the division in 2009, with four wins that
year, and then two successful defences in 2010. That has caused the fans' call for him to fight in the 155lb division, which would allow him to fight in the Ultimate Fighting Championships, the world’s largest MMA promotion (which doesn’t have featherweights.)
On Tuesday, 19 October, it was revealed that he had been offered a fight in the UFC against top ten lightweight Kenny Florian.
Eduardo Ferreira of tatame.com reported the news, with, "I spoke with WEC featherweight champion, Jose Aldo, and he told me he was offered a fight
in the UFC in December against Kenny Florian... But he said his manager did not think [it] a good time."
Aldo response was, "I received the proposal. I want to fight, may [it] be in the UFC or WEC."
The fight against Florian would be an interesting one, as Florian has been one of the best fighters in the lightweight division in past years. He has challenged unsuccessfully for the title twice, and
recently lost a title eliminator bout to Gray Maynard, narrowly missing out on a third shot.
Florian tweeted shortly after, saying, "Neither myself or my mgr @malkikawa have been offered Jose Aldo, but that would be a dream fight. I would take that fight with the quickness... Jose Aldo is as good
as it gets & is one of the best [pound for pound]. Who wouldn't want to take that fight?! I'm here to fight the best."
The possibility of Aldo jumping over is seen as somewhat likely, because both the WEC, which focusses on fighters 135-155lb, and the UFC, which focusses on 155-265lb fighters, are owned by the same parent
company, Zuffa.
Aldo's next 145lb defence in the WEC would likely come against Mark Hominick.
