Jose Aldo set to defend his title against Chad Mendes in January 2012 – UFC 142: Preview
The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will host their event, UFC 142 in Brazil. The event will take place on January 14, 2012. The Featherweight bout will feature Jose Aldo go against Chad “Money” Mendes. The Brazilian mixed
martial arts (MMA) fighter, Jose Aldo, nicknamed Scarface, is the reigning Featherweight Champion.
Aldo won the title in November 2009 at WEC 44, an event produced by the World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC). He defeated American MMA fighter Mike Brown to become the champion. Aldo has defended his title successfully at three occasions.
He first defended it at WEC 48 in April 2010 against Urijah Faber, then against Manvel Gamburyan at WEC 51 in September 2010.
The Brazilian’s third successful title defence came in October 2011 when he beat Kenny Florian at UFC 136. His opponent at UFC 142, Chad Mendes, will be highy motivated for his encounter with Aldo in January 2012. He has been
an unbeaten streak in his MMA career. Since September 2008, he has won all of his eleven MMA fights. In March 2010, he made his successful WEC debut when he beat Erik Koch.
In February 2011, he made his UFC debut against Michihiro Omigawa at UFC 126. Aldo, on the other hand, has also been on a winning run. He did lose his fight in November 2005 against Luciano Azevedo. But since May 2006, he has not
lost any fight till his last bout in October 2011 against Kenny Florian. Both fighters would come in the fight with a rejuvenated spirit for they have been on a successful running stance in their career.
Aldo would be looking forward to successfully defend his title at UFC 142, while Mendes will be excited for he will be fighting for the championship title. Both the fighters have the similar number of submission success rate with
5%. The difference comes in their striking and takedowns. Aldo has a 73% striking rate as compared to Mendes’ 22%.
Mendes, on the other hand, has a takedown success rate of 73% while Aldo has a lower rate at 22%. Aldo will use his ground game, which is his strength. Mendes, on the other hand, would be using his wrestling tactics, power and
speed to create momentum and gain an edge over Aldo.
