Joey Barton moved to Stade Velodrome earlier in the summer from English Premier League side, Queens Park Rangers, on a season long loan deal and it is widely expected that the player will extend his stay in Ligue 1.
The 30-year-old has been in fine form for the Rhone giants and is glad to be away from the Premier League, a league where he has often found himself surrounded in controversies. And the former Newcastle United player has expressed his desire to extend his

Marseille sporting director, Jose Anigo has also hoped that Joey Barton will be allowed to stay with Les Parisiens even after this season. While talking to reporters, the 51-year-old stated that although Marseille have not started any kind of discussions
with Barton’s parent club, QPR, a permanent move to Stade Velodrome is very much on cards.
"We haven't started the discussions yet with QPR but he's a likeable lad and we want to keep him, although we have no guarantees about that.”
The sporting director said that the club has great relations with Queens Park http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rangers-c40314 and Barton’s loan deal can be converted into a permanent one.
"We have very good relations with QPR and extending the loan could be on the cards,” said the president of the club.
Talking about Joey Barton, Anigo said that the player loves it here and he has fallen in love with this amazing club.
"He likes it here in` Marseille, he loves this city, which breathes football.”
