Having decided to stay at Marseille, Andre-Pierre Gignac has made a string choice. But on the side of Jose Anigo and rest of the Olympique de Marseille squad, the Frenchman needs to quickly find form or leave
Perhaps, the biggest quagmire of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Toulouse-FC-c40751 for a lot of money in the summer of 2010, the striker has simply failed to live up to his massive billing.
This time, it is clearly his last chance at Marseille. The striker has never managed to win over fans. Between lacklustre performances and repeated injuries, the striker has not proved himself to be worthy of a Marseille shirt.
Competing with the likes of Loic Remy and even Brandao, Gignac’s future at the Stade Velodrome might be no more when the current campaign ends.
Yet, despite the return of Brandao, Gignac has made no desire to leave the club and neither has he shown any signs of whether he is worth to be kept for long. A laudable decision by Gignac but it is bewildering as well.
Reports now indicate that Olympique de Marseille have had enough of the striker and will certainly offload him. Sporting director, Jose Anigo is annoyed at Gignac’s inability to do something for the club and has out of nowhere, chosen to become blunt whenever
asked about the striker.
While talking to the media, Anigo said that Gignac had a lot of proposals in the winter transfer window but he simply refused them. Anigo thinks that the remaining months of the Championelle would be make-or-break for the striker and he needs to quickly
find his feet or else he has no future at the club.
“Andre has had proposals in the transfer window but he refused. If he made this choice that he is sure of his strength, he needs to win us. The remaining months will serve him either to win or to draw a definitive line.”
Clearly, Anigo has had it with Gignac and his problems. The striker has not contributed anything this season for Les Phoceens and if the trend continues, he will not hesitate to do what he did with Lucho Gonzalez to Gignac.
