Jose Bautista and the Toronto Blue Jays near 5 year agreement
The Toronto Blue Jays are gaining some momentum in the Jose Bautista saga recently. The player has been looking for a major salary increment and that has gotten the whole clubhouse for a quick resolution before the matter goes to the arbitration panel on
Friday.
There are reports coming out now that the club and the player are edging close to a five year $65 million deal. Though there isn’t confirmation from General Manager, Alex Anthopoulos, the reports seem credible.
The standoff on a salary hike comes with a possible free agency move for Bautista at the end of the season. The hard hitter is up for a review on his performance and he looks more than ready to present the Blue Jays with a thumping season this time around.
2010 marked one of the best tenures, Jose produced in his Major League career.
Though always pursued by sceptics for presenting a hike in performance, the player has gone on to impress critics across the country. The player is now up for a raise and he’s not going to let go of the club with a discounted valuation.
Bautista believes he deserves the hike, given his blitzing display in the previous campaign but the Blue Jays are bringing in consistency issues. Apart from last year, Bautista hasn’t been able to top the charts with more than 16 home runs in his other 6
seasons of his career.
In retrospect, Bautista smashed 54 home runs during the last season. He piled on 124 RBIs (Runs Batted In), a slugging percentage of .617 and an on-base-plus–slugging percentage of .995.
Bautista was close to clinching the American League’s Most Valuable Player Award but his fourth position fell short of Josh Hamilton’s first position in the ratings.
Jose had one remarkable figure him last season and that was the fact that he increased his home runs contribution by 41 homers. The player took over Davey Johnson in the rankings, who increased his tally from five to 43 in the 1973 season.
