As the Toronto Blue Jays bewildered New York Yankees with their ballistic 16-8 win in the first game of the four-game post-season series, there most stunning batter of the season, Jose Bautista went on day–to-day injured list due to twisted right ankle.
The 30-year-old right hand slugger hurt his right ankle in an attempt to steal third base in the fourth inning of the game played on Thursday night at Rogers Centre in Toronto. Edwin Encarnacion touched a grounder into left-field and Bautista, who was occupying
the second base, stretched hard and made a slide to reach safely at third base but he got out despite twisting his right ankle.
The 8-year veteran hitter went to his knees before his trainer took him out to have treatment in the middle of the fourth inning. John Mc Donald captured the third base for Bautista, who had made one run on one hit in the eight-run first inning of the game.
While he was having treatment from trainer, his team was clobbering the New York Yankees with stormy hits. However, he did not talked to reporters after the Blue Jays snatched 16-8 win in series opener.
His manager John Farrell however informed reporter about the severity of his injury and hoped of Bautista’s coming for the second outing on tomorrow July 15.
"Hopefully this isn't a prolonged situation where he's going to miss any length of time," Farrell said.
Bautista leads the Majors with his 31 home-runs at the end of the first half of the regular season. His presence was always a source of relief for his pitchers. He also leads the Majors with batting averages of .336 followed by Cincinnati Reds’ Joey Votto.
Bautista led the Majors last year with 54 home-runs and his current impetus shows it will not be difficult for him to break his own record.
After snatching a big margin win over the New York Yankees, the Blue Jays’ confidence has raised two folds. Their home stadium was jam-packed and their win produced a roar of applause in the somewhat angry spectators. The Blue Jays have lost 22 home games,
two more than their 20 wins at Rogers Centre.
