Jose Bautista shines as Toronto Blue Jays defeat Seattle Mariners 13-7 – MLB Update

Jose Bautista regained his hitting form as the Toronto Blue Jays displayed immense power to annihilate the Seattle Mariners 13-7 at Safeco Field in Seattle, Washington on Tuesday, August 16.
Bautista, who was sidelined due to injury earlier, scored three valuable-runs in two at-bats to improve his batting average of the season to .314 and his slugging percentage to .642. The right-fielder led the list of most home-runs last season and has amassed
35 this season already. Bautista is now just two shy of completing 150 career home-runs.
The Blue Jays started impressively and managed six runs from the first inning of the game. Eric Thames, Bautista, Edwin Encarnacion and Colby Rasmus scored their runs before Aaron Hill smashed a two-run homer, allowing Brett Lawrie to score and complete
an imposing six-run lead on the struggling Mariners.
The Mariners did not, however, succumb to this battering and came back strongly with two-consecutive three-run innings to level the score after the third inning.
Brad Mills was wayward for the Blue Jays as starter and was replaced after three innings of ordinary pitching. Luis Perez replaced Mills at the mound and impressed in his four innings of spotless pitching, giving away just one run in the process. His performance
won him his second game this season.
Jason Vargas leaked six runs in the very first inning of the game and continued to pitch till the fourth inning before being replaced after pitching to two batters in the fifth inning. Vargas has been uninspiring this season and this game was no different
either. He leaked eight runs for his eleventh loss this season with just seven wins to his credit thus far.
Bautista scored in the fifth inning before he unleashed a massive home-run in the sixth inning to announce his return to form.
Ichiro Suzuki was a disappointment for the Mariners as his failure at the plate continued. Suzuki failed to connect in his five at bats and his batting average slipped to .265.
The three-game series between the two teams is tied at one game each. The final game of the series is scheduled for Wednesday, August 17.
