Jose Bautista sparks as Toronto Blue Jays defeat Minnesota Twins 11-3 – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays’ right-fielder, Jose Bautista had a remarkable day with the bat as he hit four RBIs and three homers in the Blue Jays’ 11-3 victory against the Minnesota Twins at Target Field, Minnesota, on May 15.
Bautista was excited after this convincing win. He said, “It's ridiculous, it feels like a dream right now. Sometimes I can't really believe it myself, but I keep seeing the good pitches. I guess this one of the hottest streaks I've ever had in my life.
I'm seeing the ball well and connecting good. Hopefully I can keep this going for a while.”
The Blue Jays initiated their first inning by adding two runs and took a 2-0 lead when Yunel Escobar hit an RBI single while Corey Patterson walked on the loaded bases. On the other side, the Twins’ batters were not able to put any run in the first three
innings. Patterson took an RBI single during third inning to extend their lead, 3-0.
The fourth inning again proved helpful for the Jays as they posted four runs. Bautista struck a one-run homer towards the left-field including two RBIs hit on contribution with Aaron Hill, who singled off the right field area. The Jays led off with 7-0 at
the end of third inning. Bautista hit another home run in the fourth inning against the Twins’ reliever Kevin Slowey.
The Twins opened their scoring account in the fourth inning when Trevor Plouffe scored one run on the sacrifice bunt of designated hitter Jason Kubel. The score-card moved to 8-1 at the end of the fourth inning. Alexi Casilla and Plouffe both contributed
two runs in the fifth inning to cut-off their team’s deficit to 8-3.
Bautista was outstanding throughout the game as he struck his third homer of the game in the sixth inning. Rajai Davis drove a shot to make a single by reaching at the third base while John McDonald hit an RBI single in a three-run campaign of the Jays.
After the sixth inning, the Jays were leading with 11-3. The last three innings went in favour of pitchers as the batters were unable to add even a single run and the score-board was unmoved.
The Jays’ Manager John Farrell said of Bautista, “The second home run, it's an 0-2 pitch. It's a ball in, not on the plate and yet he's able to get the barrel on the ball and drive it out of the ball park. The one thing he's doing, he not only has an awareness
of the strike zone, he's seeing the ball exceptionally well, he's disciplined.”
Brandon Morrow pitched superbly for the Jays as he threw five solid innings and permitted three runs on five hits with eight strike-outs.
