Jose Bautista sparks as Toronto Blue Jays defeat St. Louis Cardinals 5-4 – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays’ right-fielder, Jose Bautista was impressive with the bat as he went 3-for-4 and scored two runs including one RBI in the Blue Jays’ 5-4 win over the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium, St. Louis on June 24.
It was the first win for the Blue Jays in a three-game series against the Cardinals.
The Blue Jays started pretty well as they posted two runs in the first inning to get a 2-0 lead. Adam Lind was grounded out to second base but Eric Thames added one run. The second run was taken by Bautista when Aaron Hill singled to centre-field.
Rajai Davis was struck-out swinging and Brandon Morrow grounded out to second base at the top of the second inning. The Cardinals opened their scoring account by adding one run at the bottom of the second inning to cut their deficit 2-1. Colby Rasmus struck
a one-run homer (406 feet) towards right-field.
In the third inning, the game was tied 2-2 when Daniel Descalso scored a tie run on the sacrifice fly of Jon Jay to centre-field for keeping alive the Cardinals. The pitchers did not give away even a single run in the fourth inning and the score-board was
unmoved.
Morrow was little bit shaky with his pitching as he threw seven innings with an ERA of 4.90 and allowed four runs on five hits with three earned runs. He struck-out nine batters and gave just one walk on his 105 pitches.
The Blue Jays went ahead 4-2 in the fifth inning when Thames and Bautista both contributed two run jointly. Bautista said, “The last couple of days I've been feeling like I'm a little more on time consistently. After that it's just getting a good pitch to
hit and hitting it hard. I don't think that pitch was a strike. I was looking for it.”
The Cardinals posted two runs at the bottom of the sixth inning to again level the game 4-all. Matt Holliday hit a solo homer (380 feet) towards left-field and Jay added a tie run. The score-board remained level until the eighth as the batters did not take
any run in the seventh and eighth inning.
In the ninth inning, Bautista homered (378 feet) to right-field and led off with 5-4.
