Jose Bautista wants GM to make changes to Toronto Blue Jays’ pitching rotation – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays’ outfielder Jose Bautista is convinced that his team needs more starters for second half of the season. Blue Jays suffered number of injuries before the All Star Break and it will be extremely tough for General Manager Alex Anthopoulos
to find suitable replacements.
Starting pitcher Brandon Morrow has not played for last the two months due to a strained left oblique muscle and it is unclear if he will be able to return to the side after the All Star Game. Klye Drabek and Drew Hutchison are also likely to miss the entire
season due to their injuries.
“If that’s what it takes ... it has to be done,” said Bautista. “I know it’s wishful thinking, maybe we can add one and win. Maybe people like Brett Cecil and other guys take advantage of the opportunity. Given an opportunity in crucial situations brings
out the best sometimes.”
“Alex is trying to get pitching help for the second half,” Bautista said. “I know Alex is doing his due diligence. In the past there was a different view of what the rest of the season would be like.
It will be a test of nerves, character and depth in quality for the Blue Jays, who are looking to win the World Series title for the first time since 1993. Blue Jays’ offence has given impressive performances since the start of the season. It is their pitching
attack that has let them down on several occasions.
Manager John Farrell has very little time to sort things out. Once the second half the season gets underway, it will be impossible for the Blue Jays to make those changes. The Minor League has some very talented pitchers to offer and it will be interesting
to see if Farrell can make the right choices.
Bautista, who loves playing for Blue Jays, wants his team-mates to lift their spirits. Right now, Toronto is just two games off the pace for the wild card race. What the bullpen needs at the moment is experience combined with youth. Only the time will tell
if the Blue Jays can live up to their fans’ expectations this season.
