Jose Bautista’s homers help Toronto Blue Jays defeat Minnesota Twins 11-3 – MLB Update
Jose Bautista hit three homers to give the Toronto Blue Jays an emphatic 11-3 victory over the Minnesota Twins at Target Field, Minneapolis on Sunday, May 15.
Bautista has maintained an intimidating presence on the field. Having scored major runs throughout the season, Bautista’s absence becomes conspicuous enough for the Blue Jays. Nevertheless, Sunday’s feat appeared to have brought enormous surprise for him.
When asked how he felt after giving this exhilarating performance, Bautista smiled and responded with a tinge of humour. "It's ridiculous, it feels like a dream right now," Bautista said. "Sometimes I can't really believe it myself, but I keep seeing the
good pitches."
In reality, this feat will go a long way to retain a vivid memory for a long time. "I guess this one of the hottest streaks I've ever had in my life," said Bautista, who led the majors with 54 homers last year. "I'm seeing the ball well and connecting good.
Hopefully I can keep this going for a while."
Toronto kicked off Sunday’s game with characteristic aggression. When Brian Duensing came out to pitch for Minnesota, Aaron Hill was the first to lay a solid foundation for the Blue Jays. Hill scored a two-run homer to give an early 2-0 lead to his team.
Brandon Morrow then pitched a shut-out inning to maintain the lead, as Yunel Escobar scored the third run for the Twins in the second inning. If a 3-0 lead was not sufficient enough, the Blue Jays came down harder on the Twins’ Duensing.
Bautista scored his first homer in the third inning to take the score to 4-0. He homered to left to pile up the lead for the Blue Jays. John McDonald then scored a two-run homer to make it 6-0 for the Blue Jays following which Jose Molina scored the seventh
run for Toronto.
Duensing’s performance which remained below par forced the Twins to replace him with Kevin Slowey. However, even Slowey could not stop the flow of runs, as Bautista scored his second homer and the Blue Jays’ eighth run in the fourth inning.
Michael Cuddyer ended the drought of runs for the Twins in the fourth inning with a single. Trevor Plouffe and Justin Morneau each scored a run for Minnesota in the fifth inning to bring the Blue Jays’ lead down to 8-3.
Bautista scored his third homer in the sixth inning after Corey Patterson’s single assured the 11-3 victory for the Blue Jays. None of the Twins’ hitters were than able to break the stranglehold of the Blue Jays in defence, as Toronto’s pitchers paved the
way for a 11-3 victory for the team.
