Jose Bosingwa and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Didier-Drogba-c11044 to be offered new contracts at Chelsea, Andre Villas-Boas confirms
Recent reports revealed Chelsea defender Jose Bosingwa is close to extending his contract with the Blues, which could keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2013. Along with the Portuguese right back, Chelsea are also currently negotiating with striker Didier
Drogba over a possible contract extension, which is targeted at keeping the 33-year-old Ivory Coast international at the club until he retires.
While Bosingwa was initially liked with a move away, having failed to make much of an impression on the new Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas, it appears he will now be staying. Despite having lost his place in the starting line-up to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Branislav-Ivanovic-c7994,
Bosingwa’s performances in recent fixtures have improved which has led to the Blues begin contract talks with him.
Villas-Boas revealed he had been in talks with the club’s management over player’s contracts and was looking to sign certain players for the long-term. The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 boss felt a contract extension sometimes served as the right motivator for some players
which is why he was keen on contract talks. He revealed he had even spoken to the chief executive of the club, Ron Gourlay, regarding the issue and expected a solution soon.
Villas-Boas said while speaking to reporters:
“When you address renewals, it's always a good time to motivate people. It's a situation where we are on top and judging according to what we feel best.
We are in talks at the moment about the situation with the CEO and eventually with the players which we feel are right.”
Despite Drogba having made it clear that his wished to remain at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 and possible end his career at the club, there have been delays in a new contract. Time is running out since the Ivorian will be out of contract at the end of this season and if the
Blues wish to retain his services, they should act fast. Villas-Boas admitted he was all for offering Drogba a new contract, especially since the player was emotionally attached to the club, something which is very rare these days.
The Portuguese manager continued:
“I don't see it as a big issue. Players who are attached emotionally to this club - and Didier is attached emotionally to this club - will eventually renew their contract. So I go into no panic on that situation.”
