Jose Brasa, keen to coach Indian national men’s hockey team: Hockey News
Jose Brasa, the veteran, seasoned and experienced hockey coach from Spain, has shown keen interest, once again, in becoming the coach of Indian national hockey team. He has communicated his views that he is ready for the assignment if it is offered to him.
“I am open to returning back. The Indian team is very good and I know the players very well. So far, I have not received any place forward from India but if I get any, I will come back for sure. I will be very pleased to be with the Indian team again,” the
veteran hockey coach from Spain, Jose Brasa told from Madrid.
After a poor show down from the Indian side in the Azlan Shah Cup hockey tournament which was recently held in Malaysia, the Indian hockey officials and concerned persons are seriously looking into some matters which also consist of appointing a foreign
coach for the team. The national hockey team of India was at the sixth place in the seven-nation Azlan Shah Cup tournament.
In this regard a number of meetings have been conducted by Hockey India, the official body of Indian hockey, and it has been decided to scrutinise a foreign coach within 15 days prior to two important tournaments, the Champions Trophy and the Olympic Qualifiers.
“I have two offers from European countries to coach their national men’s and women’s team respectively. Negotiations are going on but if I get a place forward from India, my inclination will be India for sure,” Jose Brasa, the experienced and seasoned hockey
coach further stated.
According to Brasa, he can be the best available choice for this job and he stated that if he is given an opportunity, he is pretty sure that he will guide the Indian hockey team into 2012 London Olympics.
Meanwhile, Ajay Maken, the sports minister of India, has certified a payment of INR 200,000 as a moral obligation to be given to a former Indian hockey player, Barbara J Francis, who has been suffering from a number of diseases and is in very impecunious
circumstances now a days. The payment is approved to be given from National Welfare Fund for Sportspersons.
