Jose Cabrera to defend his WBO title against former champion Omar Andres Narvaez – Boxing news
Jose Cabrera, the current WBO super flyweight champion, will defend his newly acquired title against the more experienced Omar Andres Narvaez, the former WBO super flyweight champion, in a 12-round bout on April 21, 2012.
The event is being promoted by the duo of Osvaldo Rivero of O.R. Promotions and Hector Garcia of HG Boxing and the above bout will headline the Saturday night show. The ring for the epic championship bout will be stretched at San Juan arena situated in San
Juan, Argentina and will be televised live on Argentina’s TyC Sports channel.
The duo recently met at the pre-bout press conference and put forth their views in front of the media regarding the upcoming Saturday night showdown. Jose, 25, has been in a total 24 bouts and emerged victorious in 20. He has collected eight of his wins
by knockout and has lost just two bouts in his career to Lubabalo Msuthu and Salvador Montes.
Since his last loss the young Mexican proud has been on an eight-bout win streak and recently grabbed the WBO gold after collecting a split decision in his favour. Also known as ‘The Matador’, Jose has also proudly held the WBC youth world super and NABF
flyweight title.
His opponent, Omar, currently ranks at number five in the world rankings and has been in a total 38 bouts. The 36-year-old owner of various titles has emerged victorious in 35 bouts. He has collected 19 of his total wins by knockout and recently took on
Nonito Donaire in a WBC and WBO bantamweight championship bout.
Omar lost the bout via unanimous decision still he is a lethal opponent who has retained and defended the WBO super flyweight gold three times. Widely known as the ‘El Huracan’, Omar has a substantial upper hand over Jose in various significant aspects.
Omar is a southpaw whereas Jose is an orthodox stance pugilist, Andres has more experience, knockout proficiency, and above all huge number of titles in his resume. It is this reason why the odds are clearly in favour of the former WBO champion.
During the short media interaction, Omar confidently commented, “This will be a great battle, in which two great warriors will come out with everything in the ring.” At the same time, Jose while praising his legendary opponent remarked, “It gives me great
pride to face a boxing figure such as Omar Narvaez.”
The bout will be a classic and a tooth and nail battle since both possess their requisite capability and talent and are straight forward pound-for-pound brawlers. But still, apart from all the factors, the odds are in favour of Omar substantially.
