Jose Calderon scores a triple-double as Toronto Raptors down Houston Rockets 103-96: NBA Recap
Houston Rockets lost their 7th straight away game this season when the Toronto Raptors dropped them 103-96 at the Air Canada Centre on Sunday night.
Jose Calderon had a great game, he posted a triple-double with 18 points 14 assists and 10 rebounds and a steal under his belt to lift the shorthanded Raptors. The 31-year old Spanish guard started for the third straight game in
place of guard Kyle Lowry, who is out with a tear in his right triceps.
"I made up my mind; I want to be the most professional player in the NBA. I don't know if I'm going to be on the court or not but I want this team to win," Calderon said.
Alan Anderson also had a big night; he came off the bench to post 24 points including 3 of 7 shooting from downtown in only about 25 minutes on the court.
"We've been missing him. He's a tough guy, he can play defense, he can score the ball, and I don't think people realize how good of a player he is. He's a really big help for us." Calderon commented on Anderson. DeMar DeRozan finished
off with 19 points 7 rebounds for the night.
James Harden led all scorers on the night with 28 points; Marcus Morris added 19 points and grabbed 6 rebounds while Chandler Parsons chipped in with 12 points.
The hosts got off to a flying start, racing to 8-0 early. They were pulling ahead at break neck speed and pushed their advantage to 20-8 with 3:59 to go in the quarter. Rockets found their rhythm soon enough as they went for a
quick fire 20-6 run to snatch the lead and go up 28-26 by the end of the period.
It was close for most of the second period; Terrence Ross sank a three pointer early in the period to make it 36-37 for the Raptors. Both teams kept each other in check and the score was all square on 49 at halftime.
Toronto built a minor advantage at the start of the third period as a 7 nil spurt had them up 56-50. They maintained their advantage for most of the frame and Houston were trailing 71-77 at the end of the quarter.
Parsons made a layup early in the fourth period to make it a 3 point game but Anderson fired two back to back three pointers to put the Raptors up by 85-76. Houston came back later in the quarter and cut the gap down to 93-95 with
24.9 seconds on the regulation but Anderson made a reverse layup and scored three from foul line to lift the Raptors to a 103-96 win.
