Enrique was named Fan’s man of the Match whereas Stewart Downing was named Journalist’s Man of the Match in the win over Arsenal. The Spanish defender hailed the former Villa man’s performance at Emirates Stadium and has labelled that the English international
is a traditional winger.
The former Villarreal defender revealed that it was always difficult for him to play against Downing and is hopeful that he will be to forge a formidable partnership with the English winger on the left flank of the field.
Enrique told the club’s official website, "Stewart is a very good player who is very quick and good with both feet. I always felt he was a very good player when I played against him for Newcastle and I'm hoping we can play well together for Liverpool. I
am hoping we can provide some good service for Andy who is a great English centre forward.”
The Spanish defender has hailed the aerial ability of Liverpool’s most expensive signing, Andy Carroll, and believes that the Englishman has the attributes to find the net if he is provided with the good crosses.
Enrique, who was Carroll’s teammate at Newcastle United, has stated that the 22-year-old knows how to take full advantage of his height and has insisted that the English striker is unplayable in the air.
“In the air he is the best I have ever seen and is almost unplayable. If Andy is 100 per cent fit and on top of his game then he will be a very important player for us," Jose Enrique concluded.
Carroll, who became the most expensive British footballer when Liverpool signed him for £35 million, featured in both the opening two games of the 2011/12 English Premier League, however, the 22-year-old is yet to find the net this season.
