Jose Enrique tips Andy Carroll to shine at Liverpool this season – EPL News
Newly signed Liverpool defender Jose Enrique has tipped his former Newcastle United teammate and the Reds’ most expensive signing, Andy Carroll, to shine at Anfield in the ongoing 2011/12 English Premier League season.
Enrique and Carroll both were crucial members of the Newcastle United squad that earned promotion two seasons ago and the duo played a vital role in helping the Magpies to finish 12th last season.
However, Carroll left Newcastle United to join http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 in the January 2011 transfer window and in doing so the 22-year-old striker became the most expensive British player as the Merseyside paid £35 million for his services. Enrique has now joined his
former teammate at Liverpool after completing his switch from Newcastle United for a reported transfer fee of £7 million.
Carroll scored 11 goals in 20 matches for Newcastle United during the first six months of the last season at St. James Park and Enrique believes that the English striker will be able to emulate his goalscoring form at Liverpool this season.
The former Newcastle United defender told the reporters, “For Newcastle, he was brilliant and I’m sure he will be brilliant for Liverpool.”
Enrique believes that Carroll will be able to justify his price tag at Liverpool and has insisted that the Reds made the right choice by signing the English striker as a replacement of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786. The Spanish defender is confident
that Carroll’s contribution at Liverpool will be very vital this season.
“When Liverpool pay £35m for Andy, I know it’s not because he’s lucky. It’s because they think he’s a good player and I’m sure he’s going to do a lot of very good things for us,” the Spanish left-back added.
The 22-year-old English striker was injured when he completed his switch to Liverpool and Enrique believes that Carroll’s injury prevented him from creating an impact at Anfield during his six months at Anfield.
However, the English international is now fully fit and Enrique feels that Carroll will be an important player at Liverpool this season.
“I watched him play here last season and I knew he wasn’t fit. I don’t care if the player is Messi or Ronaldo, if a player isn’t fit, he cannot play properly. Now Andy’s playing very well and he’s going to be an important player for us this season,” Jose
Enrique concluded.
Andy Carroll started for Liverpool in their opening-day fixture against Sunderland, however, the English failed to put his name on the score sheet. The 22-year-old scored twice in seven appearances for the Merseyside club last season.
